Robot Dinner Ladies

Not sure where the research came from but the Newsround page has an interesting short article on what children think will be different about school in 2020.

Kids think that by 2020 robots will be serving up school lunch and eye scans
will replace registers, according to a report.  Pupils were asked to look 15 years ahead and predict the top five changes
technology would make to school life.  More than a third thought video conferencing would do away with the need to
go to school at all.  Other ideas are that holograms will be used in teaching and bus drivers will
be replaced by virtual drivers.

My predictions:

  • Teachers will teaching until they are 70!
  • Class sizes will be bigger
  • The classroom assistants will be teaching the class
  • Teachers will be sitting out of class planning work for the classroom assistants
  • A new, totally original and stunning idea will be introduced by the current government.  It will involve giving the teachers a set of plans for literacy and numeracy.  These will be called ‘The Literacy and Numeracy Strategy: The New beginning”

Any other suggestions?

    * Another 17 curriculum subjects will have been added to the current selection, with no more time given to be able to teach them.
    * Every child will have no less than 10 targets to achieve per term.
    * Teachers will have no less than 25 performance management targets to achieve per year.
    * There will be national tests for every subject on a termly basis in order to make sure that children really are making progress at every possible opportunity.
    * Ofsted will monitor schools without ever visiting – via CCTV cameras installed in every classroom.
    * There will be more endless streams of paperwork to complete, none of which make any difference to the education of the children whatsoever.
    Rant over! :-)

I like the OFSTED one. But CCTV cameras in every class could help the behaviour problem and maybe parents would believe the children aren’t always perfect! :)

Hey… with video-conferencing technology, maybe it would be possible for parents to watch their children’s lessons live over the internet!
