Imagine – not having to carry your your files around on a USB memory stick (and busily plugging them into USB ports all around your school?). Imagine – putting files onto your drive that the children could access from home and edit. Well it’s actually been a possibility for a while, normally with a cost involved though. Today however, Microsoft has launched SkyDrive.
Anybody can get a SkyDrive, as it’s free – just sign up for it using your Windows Live/Passport ID, and you too can have 5GB of file storage online, with file storage areas for private, shared and public files. Gone are the days of moving files between home and work with a USB drive (which inevitably got lost somewhere between the two places).

Also achievable with Google Apps – education edition advert free. Our primary school has just migrated to this. All school adults and children can have personal email address @xxxxxxx.xxxxxxxx.sch.uk. Plus documents stored on line accessible from home and school plus provision for shared editing plus many other things.
Google might be approaching Microsoft in Evil Empire stakes but at present I would contend morally preferable!

Hi…
Funny thing is Stephen…. I was just about to write the same thing!
I just tried out Skydrive… in it’s favour it does seem to work relatively fast (which makes a change for Microsoft). But I am still holding out for the illusive ‘GDrive’ from Google which is hopefully coming soon.
It will no doubt be so much better than anything Microsoft can produce!
I use Google Docs all the time too
