Staying organised

How do you keep yourself organised in the classroom?

I’ve been using the site Toodledo for a number of years now. It allows you to keep lists of your ‘to do’s online which can then be accessed anywhere with an Internet connection (or via their iPhone application). The site is extremely flexible and you can organise your lists into different categories / folders and add start / due dates etc.


A similar online tool is Remember the Milk which I know many teachers also use. I’ve recently been testing some software called Omnifocus which does a similar job… but I still end up making paper lists occasionally (although I usually lose the paper at some point!).

How do you remember all of the things that need to be done? Do you keep lists on paper or do you use technology to stay organised? Share your tips in the comments…

    I use Google Calendar and the Tasks option for my calendar and todo list combined. I have different coloured calendars for different roles ( I work at schools, for the LA, and for myself) and I set up a separate task list for each role. The Tasks are really easy to enter, drag around, and delete. Simple but effective.
    I use a web-based time tracker (Harvest) to log hours worked in different roles, and to produce invoices and help with my accounts.
    Sorted!

    I use toodledo for my task management with the iPhone sync solution. I’m not a teacher but am working with the education sector in Scotland delivering courses to help teachers and senior managers feel in control with their busy schedules. This is one of the packages I use to demonstrate the approach.

    I’m also interested … does anyone use the GTD (Getting Things Done) methodology, and if so, as a teacher, what “contexts” do you have.

      I’ve now switched away from Toodledo to Omnifocus, but I loved Toodledo while I was using it.

      I’ve read ‘Getting Things Done’ but don’t stick to it strictly. My contexts mainly relate to places I am, or equipment I need in order to do certain tasks:

      * Around the Home
      * On the computer
      * At School
      * Email
      * Phone

      etc…
