Favourite blogs for teachers (part 2)

Favourite blogs for teachers (part 2)

A few months ago, I wrote a list of some of my ‘Favourite blogs for teachers‘. Here’s another collection of great blogs that you might want to explore and add to your RSS reader.

Lots of these blogs are focussed on ICT which is one of my own areas of interest. Do you have a favourite blog? I’m particularly interested in finding blogs which are linked to other curriculum areas. Let me know via email or in the comments below and I’ll try to add it to a future list. Thanks!

Teaching News Survey

Teaching News Survey

It is now almost two months since I set up Teaching News, taking over all of Andrew Ross’ wonderful Primary Teacher UK blog posts, and trying to continue his work here. As this site is still relatively new, I have set up a survey to find out what you think of the site. I would be very grateful if you could spend a few minutes completing the 10 short questions below. Your feedback will be very helpful to me as I continue to work on the site in the future. Thank you.

Favourite blogs for teachers (part 1)

Favourite blogs for teachers (part 1)

Blogs are a wonderful way of discovering education news, ideas and new web links. I’ve been reading blogs for quite a while now, and I use Google Reader to do this. Each day, I visit the Google Reader site to see what my favourite websites and education blogs have to share… it’s much easier than having to go around the different websites manually.

To add new sites to Google Reader’s list, I just add the RSS feed. It’s not as difficult as it sounds. To find out more about RSS, watch this handy video:

If you use RSS (or you’ve just started), try adding some of these sites to your list:
  • Teaching News – Of course, this site should definitely be in your RSS feed! Our blog has the latest teaching news, links and ideas, as well as the archives from Andrew Ross’ fantastic Primary Teacher UK site, and my own Teaching Blog.
  • ICT in my Classroom – Tom Barrett always writes lots of top quality posts about his use of ICT at his school.
  • DougBelshaw.com – Doug also writes about his own work in schools, as well as his thoughts on technology and productivity.
  • Tim Rylands – Tim is famous for using the computer game Myst in the classroom. However, he has MANY other ideas and wonderful resources to share. Highly recommended.
  • Primary Resources Blog – Find out the latest news and updates to the wonderful ‘Primary Resources‘ site.
  • Sparklebox BlogSparklebox is an incredibly popular site and this blog is a great way to find out about the resources and the latest additions.
  • Teaching Ideas New Additions – This page (which has it’s own RSS feed) highlights the most recent ideas and resources on the Teaching Ideas site.
  • Teaching and Learning Blog – Matt Lovegrove is a primary teacher and he uses this blog to share his experiences in the classroom.
  • Teaching with Technology – Steve Kirkpatrick is also a teacher who writes about his work in school and his uses of technology to enhance learning.
  • MrWarner.com – This is my own teaching blog, where I’ve been sharing my own classroom experiences and recommended ICT tools to try with your own pupils.

There are lots of other wonderful education blogs… far too many to list in one post. So, I’ll share some more of my favourite blogs another time!

If you have a good education blog to share, please leave a comment or send me an email! Thanks.

Teaching News is Launched!

Teaching News is Launched!

Welcome to Teaching News!

Teaching News aims to share the latest news, links and teaching ideas, in order to support teachers around the world.

The site was created by merging two existing teaching blogs:

  • Primary Teacher UK – This blog was set up by Andrew Ross in 2005 and contained education-related news, suggested links and lots of useful information for teachers. After four years of regular updates, Andrew sadly decided to end the blog. However, he kindly allowed me to take over the site, so that I was able to ensure that all of his useful content (along with that of the other contributors to his blog) remained online.
  • Teaching Blog – The Teaching Blog was originally created in May 2009 to accompany my own Teaching Ideas site, allowing me to share news and information about the site. I also added links to useful sites and shared teaching news as often as possible.

The content from both of these blogs has now been combined and it is my aim to update this new site as regularly as possible.

If you have any news, links or suggestions for new additions to this Teaching News site, please get in touch.

The Future of Primary Teacher UK

The Future of Primary Teacher UK

Hi everyone,

I’m Mark Warner… I’m a primary teacher and I’ve been running a number of websites to support teachers for many years. I was very sad to read Andrew’s recent post about the end of this blog, as I’ve always found the site to be an extremely useful source of education news and information.

Andrew has kindly allowed me to take over the running of Primary Teacher UK, which I’m very excited about. The site has obviously been a huge amount of work for him, and I’m keen to ensure that all of the information that he (and his guest contributors) have previously posted stays online. I’m also looking forward to posting more news, links and information.

I recently started another blog for teachers, over at www.teachingblog.co.uk, where I’ve been posting teaching news and links to some great educational sites. I’m thinking about merging these two blogs at some point, so that all of the content is in one place. However, I probably won’t be able to organise this for a while as I’m getting married next week!

I hope you’re as pleased as I am that Primary Teacher UK will be continuing… and I hope I do as good a job as Andrew did.

Have a fantastic summer… I’ll post another message soon.

Welcome to the new Teaching Blog

Teaching Blog

Thank you for reading my new ‘Teaching Blog‘. This new blog replaces the old Teaching Ideas News pages which were a bit clunky and weren’t very easy to update.

These pages will be used to post teaching news and information, to share recommended teaching resources, and to tell you of updates to my various web sites. Find out more about these on the ‘About Me‘ page.

Don’t forget to subscribe to the RSS feed (if you’re into that kind of thing!).

iteachweb

Weblogiteachweteach.com is a social networking website developed solely for teachers. The site is designed to be an online community that allows teachers worldwide to connect with each other, share information, experiences, perspectives, philosophies and provide cultural insight.

There are limitless opportunities for collaboration and sharing by teachers, and iteachweteach.com provides an easy-to-use hub for a wide variety of this activity. The site will be especially useful to share learning across different cultures, therefore we aim to attract membership from as many different countries as possible.

  • Teachers can create their own profiles to display information about themselves, their school, their interests and current projects.
  • Once they have created a profile, teachers can link to other teachers with similar interests, or with complimentary skills / backgrounds. For example, a history teacher in London who is specialising in ancient Rome might find it useful to link to a teacher actually based in a school in Rome, to find out about archaeological sites in the area.
  • Links can be facilitated through several means, such as groups (i.e. Roman History, Modern Literature), subject headings (i.e. History, Languages, Mathematics), and also locations.
  • Users can communicate with each other by messaging each other though an internal messaging system. Other means of communication include forums, arranged throughout the various groups.
  • Through their profiles, teachers can detail projects that they are working on, plus upload photos and videos of their work.
