The Sorrell Foundation is launching the YOUNGDESIGNCLUB to give pupils and their teachers an exciting new resource to inform and stimulate knowledge and debate about design.
The YOUNGDESIGNCLUB is free to UK primary and secondary schools, to run in lunch breaks or as an after-school activity. Each meeting will focus on a piece of design from any discipline, providing a growing menu of over 100 design stories. They will be structured around presentations and supported by flexible resources, including print, film and audio materials and PowerPoint slides (available as downloads). This will be followed by a discussion, and the pupil members will have the opportunity to produce their own crit in response, the best of which will be published by the YOUNGDESIGNCLUB. There will also be an annual awards ceremony at Somerset House, London.

TLC Kids are offering a new ‘Maths & Science After School Kit’ to help schools, youth and community centres and other organisations to start an after school club with the support of a fully developed curriculum solution. It aims to provide reinforcement and extension in an inclusive and fun after school setting for primary school children, aged 5-11 years.

The resource includes interactive lessons, activity sheets, supporting resources, certificate templates and much more. They are also giving away organiser’s and teacher’s files in a special offer at the moment.
As teachers use the kit and make their own amendments/ adjustments, the curriculum develops and grows with their needs. The company claims that the kit is all you need to start running your own after school club.

Do you run an after school club? I’m about to begin a Film Club in which we will watch and discuss modern movies and older films. The children will also be able to rate and review the films on the FilmClub website.

I’ve also run some popular ICT clubs after school in which the children made their own animations, comic strips, compositions, computer games and more. You can read more about these clubs on my other blog, MrWarner.com.
Sharon Cooper runs an ICT club at her school, where the children have been posting examples of their work on their blog and Flickr site.

Are you planning or organising any after school clubs this year? Do you know of any other organised clubs or resources which can help with clubs? I’d love to find out more, so please leave a comment below…
